Happy May! I’m so excited to share my favorite things with you this month. Who else can’t wait to see what new things I’m loving each month?
I’ve been using this deodorant for a few months now and, WOW, what a difference it makes! I’m trying to make the switch to more organic and natural beauty supplies. Did you know that the FDA is not required to approve beauty products before they hit the market? When I found that out, I really started to think about what I was putting on my skin. Schmidt’s Deodorants are free of aluminum, parabens, phthalates, artificial fragrance, and more. Plus, I love their scents. I’m currently loving the Rose and Vanilla scent.
It had been decades since I last did a cross stitch, but in March I made a Peter Rabbit for Easter. I like to have something monotonous to do in the evenings while I’m in front of the TV. I’ve never been the type of person to just sit still. Whether it’s a puzzle, paint by numbers, or cross stitch my hands are always moving. And, I’ve officially started my pattern for July 4th! Can’t wait to share the final product with you!
J.Crew Factory Earrings
I’ve been in LOVE with these earring jackets from J.Crew! I wear them all the time…with casual outfits or to work. Instead of my diamond studs, I’ve been opting for these cute jackets.
Bobby and I watched The Alienist on TNT. This psychological crime drama is a thriller! The first episode caught our attention and it’s been unpredictable the whole way. We loved the cast. Dakota Fanning, Daniel Brühl, and Luke Evens are a phenomenal trio. I would say this is Ms. Fannings best role to date. If you are looking for something new to watch, The Alienist is available On Demand.
Have you tried any of these? What are you loving this month? Share in the comments below.
Hi friends! Last month I won a contest on Facebook and was given a TON of free samples of Perfectly Posh products. Have you ever heard of Perfectly Posh? I hadn’t. They offer all types of pampering products for your face, body, hair, feet, and hands. From scrubs and masks to shampoos and lip color, Perfectly Posh’s products are made with naturally based ingredients. Today I’m sharing my Perfectly Posh Review on the blog.
As you know, I’ve been getting Ipsy and Birchbox purely for the ability to try new products and break out of my skincare and makeup rut. So when I received this package of samples, I couldn’t wait to test them out! Scroll down to read my review of each product. If you’re interested in buying any products, contact my friend (and Bobby’s cousin), Kelly Brown.
Vial Lip Primer
PSA: If you don’t use a lip primer before wearing lipstick, you need to go buy one ASAP! I love wearing bold lip colors but they usually stain my lips or rub off after drinking out of a glass. Lip primer helps the color stay on all day and prevents stains.
I tried Perfectly Posh’s new Vial Lip Primer and loved it! It went on silky smooth and filled in all of the cracks in my lips. The lip primer is made with fermented desert date and sunflower oils to help keep lips moisturized. My lip color stayed on all day, and when I was ready to take it off it wiped right off!
Both colors have a velvety, semi-satin finish. It didn’t rub off on drinking glasses and stayed on all day (thank’s primer)! I will say that it started to get a little dry about half way through the day. I’d suggest carrying a gloss with you to add moisture when needed.
BFF: Best Face Forever Exfoliating Daily Face Wash
The BFF Exfoliating Face Wash has earth-friendly scrubby eco-beads and a mild grapefruit and peppermint scent. It really made my face feel clean! I didn’t have to scrub very hard, and my face felt really smooth afterward. Scrubs are great for oily/blemish-prone skin. If you’re like me and struggle with adult acne, it’s likely being caused by dead skin and oil clogging your pores. This BFF Face Wash exfoliates the dead skin but leaves your face moisturized and not dry.
Gel Yes! Gel to Water Face Moisturizer
I was so curious about this “gel to water” moisturizer. When first applied, it definitely feels like gel. It was soothing on my freshly scrubbed face. After a few seconds of rubbing it in, it thinned and almost felt like a primer. It made my face feel really smooth and soft. It was lightweight but provided plenty of moisture. I bet it would feel amazing if I kept it in the fridge — cold gel to wake up your skin. Ahhhh!
Perfectly Posh’s Skin Sticks are a great idea! They’re on-the-go solutions for dry skin, lips, cuticles, etc. They look like giant lipsticks! First, I tried The Purifier which has eucalyptus, tea tree, and peppermint oils to help sooth skin irritants. I used it to moisturize dry spots on my feet and hands.
Next, I tried The Healer which is made of shea butter, beeswax, and vanilla and orange essential oils. My hands get really dry, especially in the winter, so sometimes I need a heavy duty moisturizer. The beeswax helps lock the moisture in place.
Lastly, I tried Sleepy Sleep which is made with shea butter and lavender oil. At first, I thought it was just another dry skin stick. But after looking in my Pink Ink catalog, the Sleepy Sleep stick can be applied to your forehead to relieve tension and help you sleep better. Lavender is a natural relaxant and is PERFECT for bedtime!
I’ve been eyeballing the Hot Pepper Sha-Bang stick. This would feel great after being on my feet all day!
Whole Lava Love Volcanic Ash Exfoliator
This “off” mask removes the dirt and dead skin that builds up on your face. The Whole Lava Love mask is made of (you guessed it!) volcanic ash, charcoal powder, tea tree oil, and eco-beads. I did some research and found that volcanic ash is quite beneficial to your skin. It’s anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-yeast and an overall disinfectant. Volcanic Ash is high in sulfur, an active mineral ingredient which not only helps the body to resist bacteria but actually destroy it. These qualities are perfect for someone who is looking to rid of acne-causing bacteria!
Sassyooma Hand Creme
If you’re looking for a thick hand creme, this is for you! Just a dime-sized drop of Sassyooma will cover both hands and elbows without feeling greasy. Its refreshing sweet citrus scent makes it the perfect lotion to keep at your desk.
The Stripper Body Mask
How have I never tried a body mask before now? The Stripper Body Mask is full of charcoal which helps absorb free radicals and toxins that build up on your skin. It also includes moisturizing aloe vera and safflower seed oils. I applied this to my armpits, chest, and back before getting in the shower. It definitely was one of my favorites from the group! I highly recommend this product if you’re looking to detox your body from all the chemicals in lotions, deodorant, perfumes, etc.
Cackle Spackle Deep Cleansing Face Mask
I’m loving all of these mask samples! The Cackle Spackle is another “off” mask made of clay and charcoal to help absorb excess oil and help skin look clearer. I left it on for about 10 mins before rinsing it off. My skin definitely felt less oily after the mask. This was another favorite product that I think I’ll add to my basket!
Show and Gel Hydrating Body Gel
While I was writing this I asked myself, “what’s the difference between body wash and shower gel?” I’ve only purchased body washes, so I wasn’t sure if there was a difference between the two. I found this really helpful article. The bottom line is that body wash is great for normal skin and shower gel is best for acne-prone or oily skin. I’ve been using the wrong product this WHOLE TIME?! Glad I checked!
The Show and Gel features natural ingredients such as coconut water, aloe vera, and lavender oil. It nourishes your skin without leaving a greasy feeling. Plus the lavender smell was so calming!
Love The Dark Body Scrub
Out of all the products I tried, this was the only one I didn’t care for. And I’m really bummed to admit it because I wanted it to work so badly! This gentle body scrub is made of a sea salt blend, charcoal, honey, and shea butter. It’s supposed to remove and moisturize dry skin, but it didn’t apply very well in the shower…it stuck to my hands.
Jeweled Plum Fizi
Who doesn’t love a bath bomb? I got to try the Jeweled Plum Fizi and I can’t describe how amazing it smelled! It was a combination of plum and vanilla…so sweet! I have a larger than average tub, so sometimes I have to use 2 bath bombs to get the full benefit. That’s not the case with the Fizi! This little guy is packed with scent and shea butter. You can choose from 3 different variety packs on the website.
Pineapple Pick-Me-Up Exfoliating Face Mask
Last but not least, I tried this fruit enzyme face mask. The best part…the smell! I LOVE the smell (and taste) of pineapple. I just wanted to lick this mask off my face! It was a gentle exfoliator that really brightened my skin. I could feel it tingling when it was on my face — which is a good sign it’s working. Now, let me go eat some pineapple before I eat my face!
I love Perfectly Posh’s mission to deliver more natural ingredients in our products. It’s the first beauty catalog I’ve seen that lists all of the ingredients. Plus, it looks like a great company to work for. They’re all about honesty, fun, and empowering women. Now that’s something I can support!
Here are a few other products that I want to try. Clearly, I’m interested in eye care!
I’ve loved getting my January and February Birchboxes so much that I figured I’d try Ipsy again. I tried Ipsy about 2 years ago and really liked it. The biggest difference between Birchbox and Ipsy is that Birchbox has samples of high-end products and Ipsy has full-size samples of drugstore products.
I received 2 leave-in conditioners in my February Birchbox, so I was kind of bummed to get another one. However, this Marc Anthony Leave-In Conditioner was by far the best of the three! It made my hair soft and shiny. It was like a cup of coffee for my hair! And a bonus that it’s less than $15 at your local drugstore! I’ll definitely purchase in the future.
I’m a HUGE fan of masks, but I’ve never heard of a primer mask. Most of the masks I use are at night. To be honest, I’m not really a fan of doing a mask in the morning before putting on makeup. I already have a hard time getting out the door on time, I definitely don’t have time for a mask. Anyways, I gave it a shot. First, the mask was huge! There was probably a 2-inch overage. When I took the mask off, I washed off the excess with cool water and dried my face. My face felt really dry. So dry that I put moisturizer and primer back on. Oh well.
I’ve seen this product used by a few of my favorite bloggers. I was excited to see it in my Ipsy bag this month. I can say that it is definitely a full coverage concealer. You could probably conceal a tattoo it’s so thick. The shade was a little too light, but it’s something I’ll keep for blemishes or dark eye circles.
I love Pacifica products! They are 100% vegan and cruelty-free. I’ve tried some of their skincare products and LOVED them. I was excited to try this eyeshadow pallet because purples, golds, and browns make my brown eyes pop! I won’t use brown and purple at the same time, but would be a good travel pallet for a variety of looks.
YAY for eye brushes! I can never have enough makeup brushes. This two-sided blending and shading brush was so soft. I had never heard of LUXIE before, so I did a quick Google search. Apparently all of their brushes are made of hypoallergenic, vegan and cruelty-free materials. Plus, they’re super cute with the rose gold handle!
Overall, I was really happy with my first Ipsy! I found a few new items that I’ll add to my beauty routine. Have you tried any of these products? Let me know!
Last month I signed up and received my first Birchbox. I’ve been in a skincare rut, so what better way to sample products than a monthly sampler? I received my 2nd Birchbox a few weeks ago and have finally used all of the products enough to be able to give an honest review. Here’s what I got in my February 2018 Birchbox:
I must say, I was REALLY excited to try this product! I’ve seen a lot of beauty bloggers recommend OUAI so I couldn’t wait to see what the hype was all about. Plus, my hair is in dire need of conditioning (my hair is really dry and damaged). This spray-in conditioner had a pretty heavy fragrance. While I loved how my hair felt, I couldn’t get over the perfume.
I’m pretty loyal to Too Faced’s Better Than Sex mascara, but I’m always willing to try new mascaras! This MAC mascara really made my lashes super long, but I didn’t get the volume that I prefer. My lashes are pretty long and dark, so I like mascaras that give me volume. I think it would be great for a “natural” makeup day, but I’d likely not wear any mascara.
Just like mascara, I’m always willing to try a new lip product. I put on this lip stain without reading the tube or instructions. The color was a little too dark, so I went to wipe it off but it didn’t come off! Then, I realized it was a lip stain. It was a Sunday and I was planning to run errands so I just left it on. Throughout the day the color stayed (bonus if you like the color), but it was really drying. I had to keep applying lip balm.
Two hair products in my box?! I must be lucky! I loved how the OUAI Leave-In Conditioner made my hair feel, so I was curious about the R+Co blow out balm. First, the scent was better than OUAI, but only slightly. If OUAI was a strong perfume, then R+Co was a light fragrance. Other than that, I didn’t notice much of a difference in my hair texture or volume. If I had to choose, I’d deal with OUAI.
Last but not least, I tried this cool facial scrubber. At first, I thought it included a cleanser. I got it wet and started washing my face, but quickly realized no soap. HA! Silly me! So I added a drop of my daily cleanser and started scrubbing my face. OUCH! It felt like a was washing my face with velcro. I thought it might soften after a few uses, but it didn’t so I threw it away.
Have you tried any of these products? Let me know what you think!
Today I’m sharing my January 2018 Birchbox review! My beauty and skincare routine has been stuck in a rut. I’ve been using the same products for a while and I’m not in love with the results I’m getting.
About 2 years ago I tried Birchbox and Ipsy for the first time. I really loved the idea of getting new products, but I was trying to save money for our wedding so I canceled both subscriptions. This time around, I chose to go with Birchbox because I was looking for more high-end, higher quality products. I loved Ipsy because I’d get full-size samples, but a lot of what I received were drugstore items. Plus, with Birchbox you can pick one of your samples each month.
Here’s what I got in January’s Birchbox:
COOLA Mineral Face SPF 30
I wasn’t enthusiastic about trying this tinted SPF moisturizer. I’ve tried tinted moisturizers in the past and they’ve been thick…same with products that have SPF. I gave it a shot and was surprised at how light it was! The tint didn’t provide much coverage. If I had flawless, radiant skin I could probably use this by itself. But alas, I don’t. Does anyone want to try it?
Eyeko Skinny Liquid Liner
First, let me just say that I’m not really a liquid liner fan. The liquid products I’ve used in the past have been too liquidy and have been a royal mess. Plus, I don’t have a very steady hand, so I usually end up doing it 4-5 times before it looks straight. However, I tried the Eyeko Skinny Liquid Liner and was impressed with the outcome. It has a felt tip (not a brush) and didn’t have much liquid. I’d say it’s more on the dry side, but I liked that since I could draw a faint line and fill it in darker if everything looked even. This isn’t something I’ll use very often, but when I’m looking for a more dramatic eye, I’ll definitely use it!
MAC Matte Lipstick in Velvet Teddy
Matte lipsticks are all the rage these days, so I was excited to try MAC’s version in the color Velvet Teddy. The lipstick applied really well, almost like a gel, and was full coverage. I wasn’t a fan of the color though, it was a duller version of my natural lip color. I liked the look of matte, so
LAQA & Co. B’Lighter in Peacher’s Daughter
I was excited to try this creme blush and highlighter combo. I currently use a pressed powder blush and don’t use a highlighter. I have combination skin, so I avoid using anything that makes it look more oily. I loved the color and was open to testing a creme product. I dabbed my finger in the product a few times and then blotted it on the cheekbones. It took me a little bit to get used to blending in the blush with my fingers, but I found that a little goes a long way. I wasn’t a fan of the highlighter/shimmer. Again, I try to avoid anything that makes my skin look more oily.
amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo
I’ve tried a TON of dry shampoos. They’ve either left a residue or a heavy texture. So, I wasn’t too excited to try another dry shampoo. This product was one of my favorites this month! There’s no residue — it doesn’t even spray on white — and my hair feels natural. The only thing I’d say is a downfall is the scent. It’s pretty potent, but nothing that I couldn’t live with. I’ve used it twice on third-day hair and have been impressed with the results!
Vasanti BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator
THIS! I’m ready to order a full-size version! I was using Avon’s Clearskin Pore Penetrating Scrub, but this product blows that out of the water. The microbeads scrub like a microdermabrasion and the Papaya enzyme makes my face feel clean and fresh. Other scrubs are too harsh and leave my face red, but this scrub made my face brighter without the redness. I definitely recommend trying this product!
Overall, I was happy with everything in my January 2018 Birchbox. I can leave product reviews on my Birchbox profile, which will help customize my box each month. I’m already looking forward to getting my February box and testing more products!
