Happy May! I’m so excited to share my favorite things with you this month. Who else can’t wait to see what new things I’m loving each month?
I’ve been using this deodorant for a few months now and, WOW, what a difference it makes! I’m trying to make the switch to more organic and natural beauty supplies. Did you know that the FDA is not required to approve beauty products before they hit the market? When I found that out, I really started to think about what I was putting on my skin. Schmidt’s Deodorants are free of aluminum, parabens, phthalates, artificial fragrance, and more. Plus, I love their scents. I’m currently loving the Rose and Vanilla scent.
It had been decades since I last did a cross stitch, but in March I made a Peter Rabbit for Easter. I like to have something monotonous to do in the evenings while I’m in front of the TV. I’ve never been the type of person to just sit still. Whether it’s a puzzle, paint by numbers, or cross stitch my hands are always moving. And, I’ve officially started my pattern for July 4th! Can’t wait to share the final product with you!
J.Crew Factory Earrings
I’ve been in LOVE with these earring jackets from J.Crew! I wear them all the time…with casual outfits or to work. Instead of my diamond studs, I’ve been opting for these cute jackets.
Bobby and I watched The Alienist on TNT. This psychological crime drama is a thriller! The first episode caught our attention and it’s been unpredictable the whole way. We loved the cast. Dakota Fanning, Daniel Brühl, and Luke Evens are a phenomenal trio. I would say this is Ms. Fannings best role to date. If you are looking for something new to watch, The Alienist is available On Demand.
Have you tried any of these? What are you loving this month? Share in the comments below.
It’s time for another “Things I’m Loving” post. At first, I had a hard time trying to find things I love. But after a few days, I started saying “hey, I really like this!”
These new jersey-knit dresses from Old Navy are comfy and cute! The jersey fabric is formfitting but stretchy at the top, then flares out for a full skirt. I layered it with a jean jacket and some canvas sneakers for a recent Girl’s Night at Dave & Busters.
Heaven’s Gate Podcast
I’m officially done catching up on Game of Thrones. I’m now in the middle of listening to Heaven’s Gate podcast which explores the American cult that committed mass suicide in California in 1997. They interview former members of the cult and family members of those deceased. The whole concept of a cult fascinates me. Especially when this one ended so tragically. It’s worth a listen!
I recently discovered avocado oil and it’s awesome! Avocado oil is an excellent substitute for coconut oil or olive oil. Avocados contain a LOT of beneficial fats. Did you know that avocado oil contains more potassium than a banana? It also has more protein than any other fruit. It can be used for high-heat cooking and have a very mild taste.
Spring isn’t my favorite season, but I LOVE watching the Cherry Blossoms bloom. It’s the first sign of life after a long, grey winter. Check out these Cherry Blossoms near our community pool!
Dog Walk App
When I took Mowgli to the vet in January for his annual checkup, he was about 10lbs overweight. After a series of question from the veterinarian, we determined that Mowgli wasn’t getting enough exercise for the number of treats we were giving. So we decided to cut out ALL treats and increase his daily exercise! To keep track of his walks, I downloaded an app called Dog Walk. It’s a really cool and easy to use tracking app! I just turn on my GPS and hit “start walk”. We’ve been averaging about 1-2 miles a day, which is helping Mowgli lose weight AND gets me moving too!

Yay! The weather is getting warmer, which means it’s time to pack away my sweaters and boots and bust out the short sleeves and sandals! I just love spring style and I can’t wait to share a few outfit staples with you.
With chilly mornings and hot afternoons, sometimes it can be difficult to find an outfit that gets you through the day. I tend to wear darker colors in the winter, so a great spring “transitional” outfit can be light colors like pastels. And to stay warm when you get the occasional chilly morning or evening, wear layers!
Here are a few of my wardrobe staples and how I pair them with spring-y items.
Skinny Jeans with Destruction
Since it’s not warm enough to wear shorts, I’m reaching for my destructed skinny jeans. The destruction areas allow for ventilation without committing to shorts. Pair with a light colored and/or floral top and it’s the perfect spring outfit!
You might have heard that it’s a fashion faux pas to wear white after Labor Day or before Memorial Day. Well, this old-school rule is no longer followed. YUP! I’m suggesting we wear white before Memorial Day. Paired with a bold top is a great way to dress for spring weather.
I figured I’d share a little behind-the-scenes look at my photoshoot. So many piles! I’m usually running back and forth between our closet and the spare room trying to find the right bracelet or pair of shoes.
Do you have any spring outfit staples? Let me know in the comments below.
Hi friends! Sorry, I missed my February 2018 edition of Things I’m Loving. February just flew by! And now, March is halfway through. WHEW! Where does the time go? At least we made it through winter. Happy 1st Day of Spring!
Here are few of my favorite things this month…
Have you heard of this thing? I have a lot of tension in my neck and shoulders, and I’m always asking Bobby to give me a neck massage. For Valentine’s Day, Bobby surprised me with a Neck Hammock. It’s been proven to reduce neck pain and tension in less than 10 mins. Check it out! It’s AWESOME!
Some of you know that I love to try new flavors of M&Ms and Oreos. After trying a few pieces I bring the rest of the bag into the office to share (at least, most of the time). I came across this new flavor of M&Ms a few weeks ago and it’s surprisingly good! You can taste all 3 flavors — Strawberry, Chocolate, and Vanilla — in one piece. If you haven’t tried it yet, hurry! The flavor is only out for a limited time.
I’ve been trying to pay more attention to my diet this month. I’ve been really good about going to the gym 3 times a week, but eating a balanced diet isn’t something I actively think about. I downloaded the MyFitnessPal app to help me track my calories and nutrients. It’s been really eye-opening for me! I didn’t change my diet the first few days because I wanted to see how bad my habits were. I realized that I consume WAY too many carbs and fats and don’t get enough protein or vitamins. Starting the 2nd week, I added more protein and veggies. I’m still lacking in calcium (dairy-free diet doesn’t help), so I’m going to grab some vitamins at the grocery store. Overall, I love what this app does! I’m feeling more energized and balanced.
Game of Thrones
I found myself with some extra time this month, so I decided to knock out Game of Thrones. Last summer I watched season 7 — without seeing any previous episodes. Bobby grew tired of my questions and convinced me to watch seasons 1-6. At the rate I’ve been going, I’ll likely finish all 6 seasons before the end of the month. Yes, there’s violence (pretty gruesome at times). Yes, there’s nudity. But it’s SO GOOD!The director does a fantastic job of developing each character. I can’t wait to see how it all comes together in season 8!

With hints of warm weather and Spring right around the corner, I’ve been really into fashion lately. I’ve really liked getting makeup samples via mail (see my recent Birchbox and Ipsy reviews), so I started looking into various online styling services. A friend of mine expressed success with Stitch Fix so I figured I’d give it a try.
Stitch Fix is an online styling service that matches clothes, accessories, and shoes to your personal style and budget. For a $20 styling fee, you get a shipment of 5 items for you to try on at home. You keep what you like and send back what you don’t like. Anything you keep will be charged to your credit card on file. The $20 styling fee is applied to anything that you decide to keep.
I started by filling out a style profile. Everything from my height, weight, and proportions to preferred fit, favorite stores, and budget. There’s a section where I could share my Pinterest, Facebook, and Instagram accounts to give the stylist more inspiration of my style.
After I completed my style profile, I selected a shipment date and waited with excitement! When I saw my first Stitch Fix box I was SO EXCITED to open it.
Unfortunately, it was a disaster!
It was so bad that I didn’t want to try anything on. I felt like my stylist didn’t consider anything I put in my profile. When filling out my style profile I noted that I didn’t want accessories, but got a purse. I noted that I didn’t want outerwear, but got a jacket. I expressed a desire for bight and colorful shirts or blouses that I could pair with jeans or slacks for work or a night out. The 2 shirts I received were black. I couldn’t help but think “I just wasted $20”.
I sent an email to customer service and reviewed my concerns. They responded pretty quickly an offered to refund my styling fee, as well as give me another free styling. I was pretty happy with the response, so I decided to give Stitch Fix another shot.
Here’s what I received in my 2nd shipment:
Tama Wrap Scarf
Again, I was a little upset to see a scarf in my shipment because I didn’t want to receive accessories. However, I liked the medium blue color as well as the pattern. I thought it would be cute for spring, but I don’t normally wear scarfs in the spring. It was on the pricey side at $38, so I chose to send it back.
Krissa Keyhole Halter Top
Next up was this keyhole halter top. I’m not really a fan of halter tops. I have never liked how they looked on shoulders. Also, I wasn’t really a fan of the pattern. I just couldn’t see myself wearing it, so I sent it back.
Tokay Scoop Neck Tank
This scoop neck tank was probably my favorite of the group. The style and fit were perfect! I loved the floral pattern! And I really loved the stylists’ suggestions to pair the tank with a black leather jacket or skirt. The only downside was that the fabric was too thin. The price was too steep for the quality, so I chose to send it back.
Darcie Knit Dress
Although I didn’t want any dresses, I was pleasantly surprised with this knit dress. It was comfortable and stretchy. I really loved the pattern. The stylist suggested that it be paired with a jean jacket, so I tried on my jacket. As much as I liked the dress, I wasn’t really looking to add another to my closet so I sent it back.
Casia Frayed Hem Chino Pants
Lastly, I got these red frayed hem chino pants. Again (I feel like a broken record), I requested only tops so I wasn’t happy with getting pants. While these fit great, I already had a pair of red pants in my closet and I was not a fan of the frayed hem. I mentioned in my style profile that I wanted timeless pieces that I could mix and match with my existing wardrobe. I don’t want anything too trendy…and the frayed hem was just too trendy for me so I sent them back.
Overall, I thought the pieces were more in line with my style but I still received items I didn’t want (scarf, dress, pants). I chose to send everything back. Also, the prices were pretty high for me. Everything was between $40-$50 each. I couldn’t justify that price for the quality.
I was asked to leave feedback so my stylist could make adjustments for my next shipment. I’m going to give it another shot. Fingers crossed 3rd times’ the charm!
Have you ever tried Stitch Fix or another online styling service? Any feedback you can provide?
You guys loved my winter outfits post a few weeks ago, so I thought I’d share some outfit ideas for Valentine’s Day!
Bobby and I don’t really celebrate Valentine’s Day. The whole concept of celebrating love just one day a year seems a little extreme. Bobby’s usually good about surprising me with little bits of romance throughout the year, so I guess that’s why we don’t go overboard on Valentine’s Day.
However, that doesn’t mean I don’t like to decorate or get dressed up! I had such a fun time picking out these outfits. Bobby laughed at me running between our closet and the guest room. Our guest room has a TON of natural light so it was the perfect spot to take photos!
About 90% of everything I pictured below are items I already had in my closet. I did buy two new tops from LOFT — this red blouse and this black lace tank — and I can’t wait to wear them!
Outfit #1 – Red Puff Sleeve Blouse
Outfit #2 – Black Lace Tank
Outfit #3 – Black Dress with Leopard Print Accessories
Outfit #4 – Red Pants with White Peplum
I really enjoyed pulling together these Valentine’s Day outfit ideas. Let me know if you like these types of posts, too!
Do you celebrate Valentine’s Day? What are you planning to wear?
Since I work in marketing, I understand the power of word-of-mouth. Many products I use, clothes I purchase, and food I try are recommendations from friends or bloggers. There’s rarely an occasion that I purchase a product on a whim without some sort of influence.
I hope that you enjoy seeing some of the things I’m loving. If you try anything or love it too, please leave a comment below.
Now, onto my latest obsessions…
The Crown on Netflix
Ok, some of you know that I’m secretly obsessed with the Royal family (well, more with William and Kate…but that’s another story). I’ve been watching The Crown on Netflix. It follows the life of Queen Elizabeth — from childhood through monarchy. Every episode, I find myself googling to see if the events showed really happened. I’ve binged Season 1 and am now working through Season 2. I’ve seen The Kings Speech and thought it was fantastic. After The Crown, I have Victoria and Abdul and Darkest Hour on my “must watch” list. If you have some time, watch the first episode of The Crown. Let me know if you like it!
Revlon ColorStay Exactify Liner
I found out about this product in January’s issue of Real Simple. I’ve always struggled with liquid liner, so when I saw this product I knew I had to try it. Instead of a brush, the applicator is a small wheel — like a pizza cutter. GENIUS! In a matter of minutes, I had two even cat eyes! YAY for cheap beauty products that work!
SO Delicious Dairy-Free Coconut Almond Bars
I’m lactose intolerant, so giving up ice cream is hard. Sometimes I’ll power through the pain and treat myself to a small pint of Ben & Jerry’s, but THANK GOD I found these Coconut Almond Bars! They are so good! Such a great substitute for anyone who is avoiding dairy.
OPI Bond Aid
You guys! I love painting my nails, but HATE when it chips after a day. I just tried OPI’s Bond Aid and WOW it’s amazing! I’m on day 6 on my DIY manicure with no chips! Did I mention I type on my computer all day AND I went to the gym last night AND I’ve showered? No chips!!! More mani pics coming in the future!
Target’s JoyLab High Waist Mini Stripe Leggings
The weather has been frigid in Raleigh the past 2 weeks — like low 20s with wind chill in the single digits! I’ve been wearing full-length leggings to the gym, but I only have 2 pairs. You can’t have enough full-length leggings so I ventured to Target to see what they had in stock. Their new activewear brand, JoyLab, has some really cute stuff! These high-waist leggings are awesome!
What is one thing you are loving this week? Leave a comment!
I’m not a fan of winter weather, but I love winter fashion! I love all the layers and textures! Plus, I’m totally spoiled with the Raleigh weather. In Virginia, I’d be bundled up in a heavy sweater or sweatshirt from November through April. We’ve had a few weeks of below freezing temps (and a few snow days), but overall the weather has been mild…which means I can express my fashion sense a little more!
Most of my clothes are from Old Navy, Target, or Loft. My denim is from Gap. Occasionally I’ll find something I love at Francesca’s, H&M, or TJ Maxx. I like to buy “plain” pieces so I can easily mix-and-match with other pieces. I don’t have a lot of pattern pieces as they tend to be too trendy and go out of style quickly.
I’ve worn all of the winter outfits below. These are some of the go-to casual outfits I wear to work.
I had such a fun time putting together these flat lays! If you like seeing posts like this, let me know!
Hello, cold weather! The temperature finally dropped and it’s chilly in Raleigh. Daytime temps are between 45-55, and since Daylight Savings ended it’s dark and cold! Over the past few years, I’ve struggled to find a well-fit sweater that is warm. This past weekend I challenged myself to find the perfect sweater.
On Sunday, I went to the local mall and hit all my favorite stores…and tried a few outliers. I’ve linked all of the sweaters below.
Gap’s Sherpa Sleep Turtleneck. I went out on a limb and tried on this sweatshirt/turtleneck. I would never wear it in public, but it was SO comfortable…and very warm!
Gap’s Softspun Raglan Tunic. I don’t think this is considered a sweater…but I love this so much I bought 2! It felt like a lightweight sweater crossed with a lounge shirt. I might go back and buy one in every color! Perfect for layering!
Loft’s Flecked Kimono Cardigan. I went back and forth on this one. I like the idea of a wrap cardigan, but every wrap I’ve owned in the past I’ve never liked. I decided this was a no-go.
Loft’s Ribbed Shawl Open Cardigan. I liked the weight and material of this cardigan, but I’m not looking for another cardigan. In colder months I’d prefer to keep my clothing closed.
Loft’s Cable Shoulder Sweater. The knitting on this shirt was really loose. I felt like there were a lot of open holes, which I didn’t feel like would keep me warm.
Loft’s Lou & Grey Washed Boucle Sweater. I loved the material of this sweater, but it was really wide and the side slit came up really high. It looks like the sweater was made for layering and lounging.
Loft’s Boatneck Tunic Sweater. I loved this sweater! It was the perfect “heaviness” to keep me warm and it fits great. I love the tunic length…great for pairing with leggings!
Loft’s Textured Bell Sleeve Sweater. I really loved the body of this sweater but not the bell sleeves. The fabric was warm and soft. The length and fit were perfect…but again, I couldn’t get myself past the bell sleeves.
Aerie’s Boucle Oversized Sweater. I liked the fabric and weight of the sweater but wasn’t feeling the balloon/bell sleeves. While I liked the material of the sweater, the turtleneck wasn’t very comfortable.
Aerie’s Oversized Quarter Zip. Compared to the Sherpa Pullover at Gap, I loved this sweater! I had to tuck under the bottom ribbing because it was so long, but it was so comfortable. I didn’t buy this since it isn’t something I’d wear to work. Definitely adding it to my Christmas list!!
Banana Republic’s Eyelash Open Cardigan. I retract my last statement. THIS is the coziest thing I’ve ever worn! I instantly wanted to curl up and take a nap. I didn’t want to take it off! However, at $150…I couldn’t justify the purchase. THIS is on my Christmas list! Any takers??
I actually found several “perfect” sweaters. Probably too many! I’ll have to try on my favorites again and narrow them down. I also want to swing by Target and Old Navy — two of my go-to clothing stores. Hopefully, I can find some of these cheaper (because let’s be honest….Banana Republic alone blew my budget)!
If you’re looking for the perfect sweater, I hope my post provided some guidance! If you have any store/style recommendations, please let me know.
