This weekend was pretty quiet…literally and figuratively.
After the historic home tour last weekend, I started to feel a postnasal drip. No congestion, no fever, no sore throat. I felt totally fine. On Thursday, my voice started to get hoarse. Still felt fine, just noticed my voice starting to fade. By Friday morning my voice was totally gone. Again, I felt totally fine. Had no symptoms of a cold….just missing my voice. Although, I have been feeling really dry lately. My hands are cracking and my face is peeling, so I’m assuming the dry air irritated my voice box. I kept quiet on Friday and Saturday with hopes to get my voice back before Monday. Sure enough, I woke up this morning and have a voice! It’s not 100%, still a little hoarse, but I’ll take it!
Our friend Mark came to visit this weekend. If you don’t know Mark, we like to introduce him as the guy you’ll hate at first, but learn to love (Mark — I hope you’re reading this). Mark is a loyal friend and we always enjoy his presence.
On Saturday, our friends Ricky and Amanda were passing through Raleigh on their way to Charleston. Bobby, Mark and I met with Ricky, Amanda, Erin, and Matt at Rise for breakfast. We don’t take very many photos together, so this was a must! What a funny bunch!
By the way, this was my first time back to Rise after deciding it didn’t live up to the hoopla. When Bobby and I first moved to Raleigh, we were told Rise has the best biscuits and donuts. During my first visit, I ordered a fried egg and cheese on a biscuit and was disappointed. The biscuit was dry and hard, the cheese was a Kraft single and the fried egg was mostly grease. On my next visit to Rise, I ordered a Bavarian Cream donut (my favorite). The creme was powdery and didn’t taste like a traditional bavarian cream. I swore to never spend money there again, but when everyone wanted to go I figured I’d give it one last shot. This time I ordered an Old Fashioned donut and was pleasantly surprised! It was very good!
I spent most of the day Saturday on the couch watching The Crown. I’ve heard good things, so I was excited to check it out. I got through six episodes of Season 1. Very good! I caught myself googling “Queen Elizabeth’s wedding” and “King George” to check accuracy. I’ve always been fascinated with the royal family, but had no idea what Queen Elizabeth dealt with in her early life.
PS. As a follow up to my post last weekend. I was really disappointed with the season finale. I won’t spoil it, but I was expecting more “flare”. Oh well. I hear they’re making season 2…maybe it will be better.
Saturday night, our friends Matt and Erin came over and we played some board games. Mark brought Bears vs. Babies and Codenames Pictures. We’ve played Codenames, but not the pictures version. And we’ve never played Bear vs. Babies. Both were really fun. I got a kick out of my monster in Bears vs. Babies.
Even though I got my voice back, I took it easy today. I was able to finish our Christmas cards and get them in the mail. Be on the lookout! I spent most of the day on the couch catching up on personal emails, bills, and blog posts (YAY).
I hope all of you had a great weekend! Only 8 more days until Christmas. Looking forward to seeing family and friends!
