Happy April! The warm weather has finally arrived in Raleigh. It has been in the mid-60’s, low-70’s the past week or two and it’s FANTASTIC! Although, we’re now dealing with the “yellow plague” aka a blanket of yellow pollen. We opened the windows for the first few nice days but had to give in and keep them closed because our allergies are awful. We’re expecting rain this weekend so hopefully, it will wash away the pollen.
Today I’m sharing how I made a spring wreath for my front door.
I love making things, and wreath-making is another outlet for me to be creative. Displaying a DIY wreath really shows your personality, especially in an apartment complex. It’s fun to see the variety of doormats and decor.
A few weeks ago, I visited our local craft store. I pick out 3-4 different types of flowers, and 1-2 types of greenery. You’ll want to grab 1-2 bigger blooms and 1-2 medium to small “filler” blooms or greenery. The key to making a spring wreath is bright florals. Winter can be grey and drab, so make sure you grab some bright pinks, purples, oranges, and yellows.

I browsed Pinterest for inspiration. There are a lot of DIY tutorials for different types of wreaths. Here are some of my spring wreath inspiration photos from Pinterest:
Ok, now onto the DIY-ing! Here are the supplies you’ll need:
- Wreath (mine is 18″)
- Silk flowers (I picked about 8-10 stems)
- Ribbon (I suggest getting 2″ wide ribbon for a full bow)
- Hot glue gun
- Extra glue sticks
- Wire cutters
- Scissors
Start by loosely arranging ALL of the blooms to how you’d like them to appear on the wreath. Once you have a good arrangement, cut the stems with wire cutters leaving about 1.5-2″ to stick in the wreath. Begin by placing the big blooms into the wreath. Use hot glue to secure the stems (it required a lot of glue, so make sure you have a LOT of extra glue sticks).

Cut the stems about 1-2″ from bloom with wire cutters

Hot glue the stems in the wreath
Once the big flowers are attached, you can start adding the smaller flowers. I filled in the gaps with the smaller flowers and greenery. Once you’re satisfied with the placement, hot glue them in place.
Lastly, add a bow! I cut my ribbon about 2 times the length of the wreath. That will usually give me the perfect proportion of bow to wreath. I didn’t hot glue the bow, but you can if you’d like. I did a simple bow, but here are some wreath bow tutorials if you want to do something more “grand”.

Measure the ribbon about 2 times the length of the wreath
All done! Look at how cute it looks on my front door!
I could probably use this wreath until fall, but I’m thinking about making another wreath for July 4th (my favorite holiday). Guess I’ll start finding inspiration on Pinterest!
