I hope everyone had a great weekend. Bobby was in Vegas for rock climbing, and I didn’t want to be alone in Raleigh for Halloween, so I travelled back to VA for the weekend.
This time, I took a half day on Friday and visited my little sister-in-law at James Madison University. I graduated from JMU in 2011 and loved every minute of it! I was so excited to see Maddie and find out how much she loved being at JMU.
There are two must-see things for me in Harrisonburg. First, the Arboretum. It was my favorite spot on campus. I use to spend hours just lying on a blanket or doing homework. When Bobby and I started dating, we would go for walks around the pond and through the woods. There is a specific bridge on one of the trails that we consider “our bridge”. We would sit on the railing and just kiss each other. Ahhh! Young love!
The other must-see is where Bobby and I etched our initials in the concrete outside of the townhouse I lived in when we started dating. Sure enough, it was still there! It was pretty cool to show Maddie that her brother and sister-in-law were permanently engraved in Harrisonburg.
After some off-campus exploring, I treated Maddie to a Mexican dinner and hung out in her dorm room. I gave her a little gift box that I put together with some fuzzy socks, pumpkin-scented soap, snacks and candy, Halloween crafts, and other fun stuff. She loved it!
On Saturday (after driving from JMU to Sterling late Friday), I was able to catch 2 of my other little sister-in-law’s softball games. They lost the first game, but won the second one. She’s such a talented player! I’ve been watching her play softball since she was 6 or 7.
After the games, we went back to Bobby’s parent’s house for dinner. Bobby’s oldest brother and niece decided to join, so it turned out to be a great gathering!
Later Saturday night, my friends and I went to a Halloween party. We dressed up as The Price is Right contestants and won “Best Original Costume”. You can read about our costume here. I also won the “Guess Which Body Part” game where you stick your hand on a tissue box and try to guess which body part you’re touching. Sounds gross, but it was only plastic/rubber items (thank god)!
The costumes were fantastic this year! The hosts of the party mentioned they were dressing up as Marvel characters, so a lot of guests played into the theme.
On Sunday, I stopped by my brother’s apartment before heading home. I hadn’t been by his new place since he moved in. It was good to see the apartment all set up and catch up. My brother and I lived together last year before Bobby and I moved to Raleigh. Sometimes I miss him….sometimes (HA).
Overall, it was another great weekend but I’m happy to be home.
