Today I’m sharing my January 2018 Birchbox review! My beauty and skincare routine has been stuck in a rut. I’ve been using the same products for a while and I’m not in love with the results I’m getting.
About 2 years ago I tried Birchbox and Ipsy for the first time. I really loved the idea of getting new products, but I was trying to save money for our wedding so I canceled both subscriptions. This time around, I chose to go with Birchbox because I was looking for more high-end, higher quality products. I loved Ipsy because I’d get full-size samples, but a lot of what I received were drugstore items. Plus, with Birchbox you can pick one of your samples each month.
Here’s what I got in January’s Birchbox:
COOLA Mineral Face SPF 30
I wasn’t enthusiastic about trying this tinted SPF moisturizer. I’ve tried tinted moisturizers in the past and they’ve been thick…same with products that have SPF. I gave it a shot and was surprised at how light it was! The tint didn’t provide much coverage. If I had flawless, radiant skin I could probably use this by itself. But alas, I don’t. Does anyone want to try it?
Eyeko Skinny Liquid Liner
First, let me just say that I’m not really a liquid liner fan. The liquid products I’ve used in the past have been too liquidy and have been a royal mess. Plus, I don’t have a very steady hand, so I usually end up doing it 4-5 times before it looks straight. However, I tried the Eyeko Skinny Liquid Liner and was impressed with the outcome. It has a felt tip (not a brush) and didn’t have much liquid. I’d say it’s more on the dry side, but I liked that since I could draw a faint line and fill it in darker if everything looked even. This isn’t something I’ll use very often, but when I’m looking for a more dramatic eye, I’ll definitely use it!
MAC Matte Lipstick in Velvet Teddy
Matte lipsticks are all the rage these days, so I was excited to try MAC’s version in the color Velvet Teddy. The lipstick applied really well, almost like a gel, and was full coverage. I wasn’t a fan of the color though, it was a duller version of my natural lip color. I liked the look of matte, so
LAQA & Co. B’Lighter in Peacher’s Daughter
I was excited to try this creme blush and highlighter combo. I currently use a pressed powder blush and don’t use a highlighter. I have combination skin, so I avoid using anything that makes it look more oily. I loved the color and was open to testing a creme product. I dabbed my finger in the product a few times and then blotted it on the cheekbones. It took me a little bit to get used to blending in the blush with my fingers, but I found that a little goes a long way. I wasn’t a fan of the highlighter/shimmer. Again, I try to avoid anything that makes my skin look more oily.
amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo
I’ve tried a TON of dry shampoos. They’ve either left a residue or a heavy texture. So, I wasn’t too excited to try another dry shampoo. This product was one of my favorites this month! There’s no residue — it doesn’t even spray on white — and my hair feels natural. The only thing I’d say is a downfall is the scent. It’s pretty potent, but nothing that I couldn’t live with. I’ve used it twice on third-day hair and have been impressed with the results!
Vasanti BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator
THIS! I’m ready to order a full-size version! I was using Avon’s Clearskin Pore Penetrating Scrub, but this product blows that out of the water. The microbeads scrub like a microdermabrasion and the Papaya enzyme makes my face feel clean and fresh. Other scrubs are too harsh and leave my face red, but this scrub made my face brighter without the redness. I definitely recommend trying this product!
Overall, I was happy with everything in my January 2018 Birchbox. I can leave product reviews on my Birchbox profile, which will help customize my box each month. I’m already looking forward to getting my February box and testing more products!
